I was hoping to do a design or collage using vintage maps but all I had access to chopping up was an old road atlas from 1989! I then had the idea to create a piece of work with a vintage feel and that took the form of an antique butterfly collection. I chopped up bits from my road atlas to make the butterflies, on some of them I embellished by stitching on scraps of fabric as I like the mixed media result. Other butterflies I worked on in Photoshop and then put them all together for my own vintage-modern butterfly collection. For a bit of quirkiness I have named some of the butterflies after favourite songs and also other bits of text which mean something to me.
Sorry for any inconvenience, this design is no longer for sale. Designers who sell and earn commissions have been asked to complete tax return forms and as a designer in the UK this would create a very complicated situation for me which would not be worth doing based on the small amounts I would earn. My designs may at some point be on sale in the UK.

The butterfly fabric is also good to cut individual butterflies out and use them in other things, like I've done in this textile collage I recently created.

I had the fabric printed in the standard size and then I reduced the design size, the text is less readable when smaller but it makes a really unusual fabric.

Had a fat quarter of the butterflies printed and I really like the design. What I would say if you buy any, I reduced the design size so that I got 4 repeats on my fat quarter and it has made the names of the butterflies a bit too small to read so I think I'd leave the design at the original size.
Thank you all for the nice comments, some of the butterfly colours were happy accidents as the bits of maps I used determined the colours on a few.
this interpretation of the theme of the week is really very original and very esthetic
This is one of my favorites! Great job. Love the colors you chose!
Very cool idea, I love the collage element to it as well as the pleasing colors and overall design.
