Panels of my work: Running Standing Still . This piece emphasizes difference. Difference in age, in gender, and in ways of being. Nokomis, Hiawatha's grandmother, is older and more sedate, but she has the run of her mind in which to teach Hiawatha the things he will need to know to navigate the running paths of his life.
Photo layers are my own, Hiawatha and Nokomis are from the Hiawatha Primer by Florence Holbrook published in 1898, which is based on the epic poem The Song of Hiawatha by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
