New remote sensing technology has allowed us to map the moon's surface in greater detail than ever before. Using a map from NASA (public domain) found at http://klabs.org/images/lola/index.htm, I re-colored the topography and created an overall repeating design. From a distance it's simply an abstract design, but up close you can see lots of craters in amazing detail.

Kelly, yep! The source image wrapped left-to-right already (around the moon), but the top and bottom are the poles, so those got mirrored. I did it all in Photoshop and then the design here is just a block repeat.

what a fun idea! and it turned out neat! did you make it repeat left to right, but mirror top to bottom?
