Here is my final pointillism design for the pointillism contest. My inspiration was photos I had taken in the garden and another design I did from tho
This prints a slight darker that it appears on my computer, but the colors are about the same with the new profile, 6/28/12. .Here is my final pointillism design for the pointillism contest. My inspiration was photos I had taken in the garden and another design I did from those photo. I have tried many different color combinations and have decided it is time to stop playing with this design.
I hope you enjoy.
All the dots in this were individually placed in a quarter of the design. Then it was done in different colors and put together in various ways, plus more details were added to tie the elements together. The smaller version that is for sale is http://www.spoonflower.com/fabric/486090.

After comparing the new swatch with the old, I thought I might change some of the colors, but actually the colors are much closer to the monitor colors now, at least on my computer. I'm going to leave it alone. it is just a little darker on the Kona cotton.

Thank you, Sue, for the nice comment. This design is probably the one that took me the longest to do with all the individual dots. It was a big stretch to get it to repeat nicely, as I was very knew to using GIMP at the time. At that time I usually used the color changer to change colors, but this has too many colors for that. I did different colored versions and then pasted in the different colored flowers. There is actually another that is the same but for sale, because I didn't proof this one. I wasn't sure about proofing it at a different size while it was in the contest.

I like this a lot. The repeat is really well done, and I'm really liking your "brushwork" as well as your color choices.
21 out of 105 is the highest I have ever placed.

Thank you, treacle treats, I would have sent you a message, but you must have your profile private. I will be sending for a swatch soon. I just need to get some more designs ready for the collection.
This is a really cool fabric design and a good try at pointillism. You obviously put a lot of thought and effort into it. I'm stunned not to see it in the top ten.
Probably they have too busy with their newest project to set it up. There are many others that I think should have been there, too.
Sarah--Oh gee! So it is! Sorry Kathy, I can never navigate blogs! I don't see the placement list, but it is usually around there somewhere...
@Jane - isn't that just the alphabetized list of entrants? I don't think they've posted the list of how we placed yet, She'll be 11, for sure!
The list is on the main Blog page: http://blog.spoonflower.com/ 25th is not remotely rational for yours.
Thanks Jane. There were some other designs that I expected to see in the top ten, that weren't there either. I hope they put up the list so I can see where I placed. There is usually a link to click on to 'see more'. A big thanks to all those that commented on this design and those that had suggestions in the critique group.
This design should have been on the top 10 results list in the pointillism contest. It should have been a contender for #1. Seriously.
I really appreciate all the wonderful comments about my design.
i know you worked at this for a while & your end result is luxurious! the different sized dots & rich colors made lots of depth & texture
Your dahlias are beautiful, Kathy. Fantastic work!
I think this is my favorite ever of all your designs! you've definitely captured the feeling of dahlias and I love your color choices.
This is lovely! The way you treated the flowers is wonderful and I'm especially loving the background. Concentrating the dots and adding that darker turquoise makes the flowers look like they are floating in water. Beautiful!
I really think this is one of your more successful designs. Great depth and true pointillism. Something I really appreciate.
Thanks for all the comments.
This is very charming with impressive detail. The repeat looks great, I could see this used in everything from quilts to dresses. Well done!!
Good job on the pointillism! You've obviously put a lot of work and love into this design. You've done a very good job on the repeat, which I know is not easy when you are working with all those little dots.
This came out really nicely! I love the colors, it's beautiful.
I'm so happy the way your design turned out. Beautiful colors and perfectly in balance. It's my favorite in the contest!
I have removed the pointillism tags from my other pointillism design variations temporarily, so only this one will show in a search. The others are still public in my gallery. It is nice to know that some of the variations are well liked, but I felt it was confusing to have so many tagged with 'Pointillism'.
All of your hard work in creating this wonderful design has paid off Kathy. It will be a delightful fabric to use.
