Top notch, Jillian! This is a favorite of mine; beautifully done!
Jillian, congrats on a great finish! It's such a great illustration.
Congrats on this beautifully illustrated testament to the dangers of ignorance, superstition, and intolerance. It's a quiet powerhouse, and a well deserved finish!
Congratulations on 3rd place.
Very well done Jillian and well deserved. It's a great design!
Jillian congrats on 3rd for a great illustration good work
Congrats on 3rd place! Well done!
Congrats on top ten, Jillian! This is an absolutely fabulous design!!!
Congratulations on 3rd, Jillian, your toile is super-amazing!
Congratulations on 3rd place!
Congrats Jillian, this is a stunner!
I absolutely loved this design. Congrats on top 10!
Congratulations!! woop! xxx
Congratulations on 3rd place Jillian. This is such a timely reminder of the suffering that can be inflicted on innocent people when trial by mass hysteria (and the modern media networks) replaces rational thinking.
Congrats on 3rd. Very nice illustrations and repeat.
Your Illustrations are exquisite! And repeat is so well done!
Nice fabric, but I would definitely not say that the Salem witch trials were "government intruding on individual freedom". Instead, they were a classic example of mass hysteria and mobs of people demonizing those who are different. Kind of like now. (Long ago I was in a school production of "The Crucible", about the girls whose accusations led to the trials.)
Thank you all so very much! Still no internet at home (driving me nuts!) but I will be back and more active soon :).
This design is embued with the somber mood of your chosen subject yet displays all the wonderful style of a traditional toile. It's brilliantly depicted, Jillian.
Holy Frickoly! (sp?) A true Toile stunningly illustrated right on theme and completely unique. A real jaw dropper Jillian!
i absolutely love this jillian, superb illustrations, compostion and repeat, the black and white colouring works really well to evoke a sense of despair, distrust and gravity to the scenes, it's broodingly beautiful and i agree with samarra you totally nailed it, and although there are others in this contest that are superb and i love, if this doesn't win i'll spoon my eyes out! (well not really but i'll be a bit miffed, so there!)... i was also fascinated with this subject as a teenage goth, and if i had of done a toile i would of done this, so good job i didn't do one!!!
wow, I'm blown away by your toile, Jillian, your illustrations are absolutely amazing and so well put together!
This is fabulous (and a period that I was fascinated with as a teenager). Great illustrations.
What a beautiful, and well done, toile.
Really appreciate your comments Lisa, Kelly, and Alex! :)
Wow! Beautiful work
Wonderful lesson and beautifully illustrated!
Very nice, just the right amount of dark and lights! The illustrations are fabulous too! :)
Thanks Rhonda, you snuck in there!
Thank you for lovely comments Cean, Shin, Mona, Marcia, and Sharon! I can't really say it was fun to work on, but it was a good experience over all :). It will probably be some time before I do toile again, maybe no black clothing in the next one.
This is a beautiful toile illustrating a grim subject. The drawings are fabulous! The composition is well-balanced and flows smoothly through the repeat. You have conveyed a great depth of feeling in this design, Jillian.
oh wow.... so great. And totally sad too. (ps. that horse is fabulous) perfect spacing. love xxx
WOW! Amazing work Jillian, really great!
Oh! I am so in love with this! I love that the leaves have left the trees - makes it both sad and eerie.
Very Toile indeed! Beatiful Jillian. Very well done
So haunting and beautifully rendered, Jillian! This is a tip top toile and for my money, I'll bet you've got a top tenner here.
Thank you so much Samarra, Rachel, and Samarra :p! Its a bit dark and dramatic, but I think it turned out toile-ish enough.
Um, yeah, I'm back like a bad penny....just wanted to agree with Rachel. Frankly, you've nailed it and everyone else can go home now. :D
hands down amazing, and such a great idea for the theme. great illustrations, super compositions, I could go on and on.
Whoa, this is just beautiful, Jillian. I mean, I don't want to see the woman anywhere near that noose, but you've once again drawn up a beautiful grouping of figures. Perfect tones, line work, texture/shading and I LOVE the repeat. I'd say this is pretty much a perfect toile!! Beautiful job.
