I like to imagine that female pirates in the 18th century were subject to adventure and fantastical fashion, instead of the realities of harassment, scurvy, and limited hygiene. While not strictly in the rococo style, the subjects themselves are rococo-inspired. I'm guessing this is the mentality that birthed skanky Halloween costumes.
