Fabric design is definitely not my strong point as an artist, but I keep on trying! I am so inspired by all the other talented people on here. My main interest, in my own work, is in adult-leaning but child inspired designs. I aim to be silly.

So here is my entry for the large scale floral contest with the limited palette. I did not use the green or the brown as they just seemed to muddy my design up. The repeat on this one nearly sent me screaming out my studio window but... I quite like the end result actually. (I know this is probably not the typical botanical illustration that this contest was probably looking for... but it was what the colors inspired in me.)

ceanirminger says: This has a really great vintage feel, Mona! I can totally see a forties dame in a dress made out of this pattern. Those black stems are the perfect touch. Super!

rhondad...

rhondadesigns says: Silly me, Mona! Pardon my lapse of concentration which caused my faux pas! Put it down to over-indulgence of delectable fabric designs in the Big Botanical competition. So much creative thought and talent is on display with this contest. Anyway, I'm sure that your design will look as fantastic as the image when it is printed. :-)

lulakiti says: Oh - it's not printed yet, Rhonda! The picture is just to show it at a better size. :)

lulakiti

lulakiti says: Thanks, Patty! The repeat is still bugging me though - went back and messed with it AGAIN today... and it is the same. So I am just going to assume that it really is not part of my design as everything I have checked on my ends seems fine. Sigh.

inscrib...

inscribed_here says: How gorgeous. This is stunning at multi-yard view. I think it would be fantastic on the upholstery weight, covering a big ottoman perhaps. You've done really well.

lulakiti

lulakiti says: Thanks for the reassurance, Victoria! Much appreciated! And yeah, I'm overly dramatic - my studio/office/huge mess is on the ground floor... I probably wouldn't even stub a toe if I should hop out the window. :)

victori...

victorialasher says: Lovely design. Hope your studio is on the ground floor; we'd hate to lose you. I can see why this was difficult. There are really 2 layers to the repeat, it's always much more difficult to get those right; but you have succeeded. I often have those funky lines in my repeats; you really have to study it to see it here. Sammyk is correct, no worries, it's not really in your design.

sammyk

sammyk says: I've had that happen too and it's often the bowser you're viewing your uploaded file in. Try another and it will disappear, no worries. Great job!

Posted over 5 years ago.

lulakiti

lulakiti says: Thanks, Samarra! I had to start over at least 3 times. SO annoying. And I still see a little "notch" in the repeat but I have been over and over it and I swear it is not really there.

sammyk

sammyk says: Oh, great job, Mona! I've had a few repeating issues that have nearly driven me mad too. This was worth the perseverance: lovely fresh-flowered approach to the theme!
