Thyme, oxlips, violets, woodbine (Honeysuckle), eglantine (dog rose), and love-in-idleness (pansy).
“I know a bank where the wild thyme blows,
Where oxlips and the nodding violet grows,
Quite over-canopied with luscious woodbine,
With sweet musk-roses, and with eglantine.”
(Act 2, Scene 1)
Punctuated with love-in-idleness (pansies):
"Yet mark'd I where the bolt of Cupid fell:
It fell upon a little western flower,
Before, milk-white, now purple with love's wound,
And maidens call it love-in-idleness."
(Act 2, Scene 1)
"What angel wakes me from my flowery bed?"
(Act 3, Scene 1)
All quotes from 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'.
Midsummer has always been the most important time of year to gather magical herbs. Like the sun, which is at its peak on the Summer Solstice, the plants are at the height of their power. In Latvia, Midsummer Eve (June 23rd) is also known as 'Herb Evening'.

"What angel wakes me from my flowery bed?" (Act 3.1.135) Your wild herb and flowery design would make amazing soft furnishings. Great collection
Way cool design Moira! I love it! :-)
Sue Ellen, Rhonda and Julie : What can I say in the face of such praise - thank you, I am blushing!
Beautiful design Moira!
This outstanding design depicts Shakespeare's poetic words with elegant finesse!
Oh, I really like this new version! It's even more like a parterre, with the edgings around the main plants in each bed. And the connection with the Shakespeare citation adds even more liveliness. I also admire your having been able to work the contest theme into both your own personal style and an existing collection.
Oh thank you ladies - Amy, Angela, Lynn, Ceri and Magenta - for such beautiful comments, you've made my day!
This is so pretty and I love your reference to Shakespeare's Wild Thyme. Wonderful!
Very pretty Moira!
Lovely illustrations Moira!
