The original print for these lupine designs was created by pressing actual Lupine leaves between two pieces of fabric and pounding them with a hammer. It's a Japanese printing technique known as hapa zome (leaf cloth). The fabric is presoaked in a weak copper sulfate solution which acts as a mordant (fixative).

Thanks for pointing out the color difference, Su! I pulled my swatch out and took a new picture. It's still a little off (green this time) but much better that the last one. I appreciate your attention to detail Su, thank you for the positive feedback : )

Such a pretty design Lori - and a fascinating process! I'm seeing a huge difference in the color values of the print - the design image looks quite yellow... but in the print it's a creamy color?? Puzzling! Is it just that yellow prints cream on the Eco Canvas?
