A favorite art school professor said we would miss the assignments most after graduating. Thanks Spoonflower contests for filling a gap!

A few early daffodils saved from a late snow have multiplied into an endless floral cloud. Zoom in with the test swatch view if you want a better view of the details. The current configuration is for the border print contest. I will probably reconfigure it later for the wider fabrics leaving more of the open blue sky area. I'm envisioning this as a simple peasant top with the small scale border for the sleeves. Combining the large and small scale borders shown here with the overall ground of the companion fabric should offer some interesting possibilities. Can't wait for spring now!

Thanks. inscribed_here. No matter how it does in the contest I am really looking forward to making it into something wonderful!

These pretty daffodils look great against the blue. The swatch printed very well. Good luck in the contest.
Thanks, Rhonda. Polishing up the little blue windows to the sky was definitely the most time-consuming part of the design but really essential to the floating feeling that I wanted. Also sort of like the open spaces in eyelet embroidery.
A beautiful "host of daffodils" in a lovely border design. I particularly like the blue sky peeking out between the blossoms.
Idea board for the daffodil fabrics. Hmmmm. I am putting far too much time in to this project! Anyway, I think that the little McCalls pattern really would be great for so many of the designs here on Spoonflower that I really wanted to share it.

By the way, very nice design! I love the depth that you especially see in the swatch.
I've been posting PNG files, as the colours appear more accurate, and test swatches have come out just fine. I guess I should do a bit more research on the best file formats, but I was having similar frustration with getting the TIFs to look good onscreen.
Thanks, Cean. I expect it to be a good solid "also ran" behind yours and numerous others of the very accomplished Spoonflower veterans but I am trying to pick up my game. I love the art school assignment aspect of the contest themes. Such fun! It is a shame that the recommended TIF format really flattens out the onscreen appearance. Maybe the next time I enter a contest I will post in JPG until the contest is over. Hmmmm. So many details to consider.
Yay! The test swatches for the two daffodil designs - the Daffodil Skies Border for the Spoonflower contest and the matching overall ground design, Daffodil Skies Forever - turned out great. The blue needed to be shifted just a little; a too rosy blush to the white petals that doesn't show up in the photograph but does in person needed brightening a tad; and there were a number of finicky little clean-up details to various edges but, overall, nothing major. Now I have to decide which fabric to use for the dress. I am planning on McCall's 6062.
This would make a perfect peasant top! So cheerful and happy, this is a great idea and a wonderful fabric. good luck!
