I grew up thinking everyone had a sewing machine just like everyone had a stove. My mother made a lot of our clothes and as I got older I made my own. It was a rare treat to get store bought clothing in the early days. That changed over time but I continued to make much of my own clothing or at least alter the ones bought at the store. My mother and grandmother taught me to embroidery and crochet when I was tiny. Every year I would make these embroidery pillow cases with crochet edges to donate to a veterans auction my grandfather organized. It made me feel special and useful to have those skills I could share. The vets and their spouses would make over them and me and they always sold fast. That set me on a life time journey of being a maker of things and led me to study fine arts and my career as a scenic artist and prop master. Now in my retirement I feel a bit like I've come full circle with the opportunity to create my own fabric designs. All that being said this is my entry in the sewing notions contest. I hope you love it.
