Under fluorescent light with a crappy cell phone camera... the best I can do at the moment for the most realistic look.
This is 8x8" swatch printed on quilting weight cotton at 300 DPI. I used that DPI rather than the larger scale 150 DPI because I wanted to fit more of the repeat into the swatch. The 300 DPI is probably a more usable scale.
There was very little color shifting, I'll probably leave this one as is.

Thanks for noticing! :) I ended up using the Liquify effect/filter in Photoshop. Yes they are watermelon stripes and pineapple stripes. Thanks for your comment.

The only melting clock! I spent a lot of time trying this without achieving a remotely usable motif...Congratualtions on your result. Are they melon stripes? I really like those.
