Having been the victim on many occasions, of the spontaneously ripping paper bag, I thought this was a much more tidy reminder of the many great reasons to make the switch to a reusable bag. Instructions: Start by making the handles by folding each handle piece in half, wrong sides together, then folding in both side pieces to meet down the center. Edgestitch all around the strap. Position the handles at each end of the right side of the lining, facing inwards, towards the center. Baste in place. Now, let’s make our bag! Fold the bag exterior in half lengthwise, lining up the cutaway areas and matching raw edges. Sew both long side seams, sewing right off the edge and reinforcing the seams at all corners with backstitches. Next, flatten the sides so that the raw edges of the side and bottom of the bag match, creating a straight seam across the bottom of the bag, and sew. Repeat on the opposite side, and then again on the lining piece. Finally! We’re almost done! With the lining inside the exterior, right sides facing, align the top raw edges and stitch around the top of the tote, leaving a 3” wide opening between the handles for turning. Turn the tote right side out and tuck the lining inside. Fold the opening in and topstitch all around the top of the bag. Find instructions at
