Description: Now with white seam allowances rather than blue - this will work on the more transparent Kona and Basic cottons without seams showing through. Note: a full yard is needed to make this enormous 18" globe. Other size globe kits are available here.

**I don't recommend the Poplin for globes, as the Poplin is very stiff and unstretchy - my experience is that the globes turn out wrinkly. Kona is my first choice, though the knits and the sateen work as well.**

Now updated to include South Sudan and to fix a few geographical errors I made in an earlier version.

Regular 42" width fabrics include an 18", 9" and 6" globe. Wider fabrics also include two more 6" globes and a 3" juggler.

rabbitcesar says: would it be possible to upload a design with only jugglers? i really love juggling and your unic globe jugglers are awesome, but i had no idea what to do with the larger globes.

weavingmajor says: now, at last, I've updated this globe like all my others, to take out the ugly corners on the pieces, add in South Sudan, and fix all the geographical errors I made the first time around! Whew!
and a very belated thank-you, Katie and Lucy! this was so much fun to make and I'm glad you're enjoying it too!

weavingmajor says: the largest globe I could fit on a yard of quilting weight cotton, and three of its smaller relatives! This enormous globe sucked up almost a whole big bag of polyfil, wow! It will need to go to a library or a school, I suspect...
these globes are all made with the older pattern, the one still shown here. I've just ordered some of the newer ones (more Christmas presents!) and will test them out when they arrive!

weaving...

weavingmajor says: The globe works, and it is now for sale, but please read these warnings (printed in the comments below) before buying.
Note that the globes in this picture are the 12" and 6" globes available on my 'world traveler' fabric. The fabric on this page makes 18", 9" and 4.5" globes. The edges on the triangles are a bit angular, and if you sew them as shown (bottom, larger globe) then your globe's seam lines stick out strangely. If you smooth the lines into a curve (top, smaller globe) then it works better, though the final shape is still not a perfect sphere, and smoothing the lines means losing parts of Iceland, Greenland and the Galapagos Islands.
There are a few alignment issues, notably the line between the US and Canada and the borders of Antarctica. I hope to be able to fix these in the coming few weeks as time permits, but if you and your kids aren't picky, it's available now.
Evenspor, I think your dodecahedron is a much more successful shape, even though the construction is a bit more complex. I might try that myself for the next incarnation of this - I'm curious how the two compare.
