Africa, the main source for jazz is depicted by the singer who has the contours of Africa.
The flag of New Orleans is visible on the drums.
The Africans slaves brought to America, put to work among others on the cotton plantations around New Orleans, brought their traditional, highly rhythmic music with them.
The reason for the emergence of jazz has been the abolition of slavery in America in 1863.
Many went towards the cities. New Orleans was soon overwhelmed by many unemployed people. There was nothing left but to go begging or street music making. Many were singing in groups at the corners of the streets. The sound was a success and soon the music was to be heard in bars all over America.The music was madeâ€‹â€‹ under different influences. The main styles that would eventually form together jazz were the spirituals of the American Negro churches, the "Blues", work songs and marches of the Negro bands from New Orleans.
