A recent trip to China inspired this design - a twist on traditional papercutting. Hand drawn, then tweaked on computer.
This was really fun to design. I tried to keep traditional papercutting at the heart of the design but add a personal twist. The areas I visited while in China had an amazing mix of traditional culture with the modern, cutting edge. I wanted the fabric to tell a mini story of some of the sights I saw in China which have been represented loosely (it would be impossible for me to do such amazing sights true justice!)... such as the Karst mountains, the Great Wall, and the beautiful dragon and phoenix imagery everywhere. For more waffle on the design (if you can stand it) you can read the blog entry here... Here is the new year

Very very excited for you on your placing here in the top ten.. Wowzer design!! :-)
Thank you so much for all your congratulations - I'm over the moon to say the least! Plus also shocked - there were so many brilliant entries into this contest (and many that were more true to a traditional Chinese paper cutting style) that deserved to do well. I'm extremely flattered. An extra thanks goes to atate and cassiopee for sorting out my fabric upload. I'm so happy, thank you again!
Congratulations on your win!

Congratulations on placing in the top ten!
So lovely and intricate!
Elegant beautiful design!
Elegant and lovely - the rich details and yardage view are both wonderful!
This is beautiful and so lovely to see your story running through the design!
Wow - everyone is being so lovely and a lot more eloquent than me, with your fantastic comments. Thank you all, again! Unfortunately for the boyfriend, I've decided he's going to have to make do with cushions rather than a duvet (a bit more versatile!). Unless he wants to become handy with the sewing machine.
Really pretty and totally convincing as traditional paper cutting, and so nicely authenticated by the story you share in your note. I looked at this a lot when I voted and it really won me over.
Lovely design. I liked reading about your inspirations, and seeing your sketches. Post pics of the duvet cover when it's completed.
Lovely and elegant. I like how the motifs in circles almost float up like bubbles…each one is a beautiful story. Gorgeous!
Wonderful. Love your style!
Thank you all for your really kind comments. I'm glad the design is liked as I was worried that my doodles are a little childish - but I really did enjoy combining the brief with my experience. There are some absolutely fantastic entries in this contest, it's been great seeing all the individual takes on Chinese paper cutting.
Your beautiful design gives the viewer a tantalising glimpse into an exotic world where, as you say in your interesting description, traditional and contemporary lifestyles co-exist! I love how you have entwined a diversity of motifs into one cohesive pattern!
View at a yard view to see the half drop.
This is a wonderful design with so much detail and just enough difference in the weight of the focal points to draw your eyes to them. You did a great job with the half drop repeat.
Awesome graphic design!
I think you've done a beautiful job representing your experiences. It's lovely!
