Poor Nessie. Once the "it" girl of the Pleisiosaur circle, she was a care free exuberant beauty known for a fine set of flippers and a neck that went aaaalll the way up. Then one day, out of the blue, she began to feel uneasy in open water. Crowds made her itch. The ocean was too darn big! In a panic she sought some safe secluded place where she could get a hold of herself. Loch Ness proved to be a perfect sanctuary. Unfortunately, while Nessie holed up and tried to come to grips with her agoraphobia, the rest of the dinosaur world went extinct, the jerks. Now she is the only one of her kind, without a friend in the world. Sometimes people come looking for her, but her crippling shyness keeps her hidden in a cave, crying salty tears of regret. And to make it worse, they call her a monster! A Monster! Sure, she enjoys a nice seal here or there for a snack, but who doesn't? And being grouped with that big hairy pituitary case Bigfoot? It's too much to bear! Poor Nessie. The most misunderstood creature that might possibly maybe exist on this green earth.

genius design. this is so fantastic.
Love it. In fact it is an apt picture of shyness. We hide, then we pop out, then hide again.
This design is fantastic as is your story behind it........you should write children's books!!!! The quilt is beautiful!
Really love this fabric!

I noticed that my favorite design was chosen again as someone's favorite and ended up on SP homepage. This little guy (or should I say big guy) just keeps getting noticed...as he should!
Thanks prettyroses! Mopey Pleisiosaurs are fun to draw.
Aw, poor Nessie ... What a pretty fabric, with a very smart design! ...and comes with a story! (awesome :) )
OOOOOHHHH! Thank YOU, Sandell for using this fabric to make such a lovely pillow! It's the most exciting thing to actually see my fabrics in use, thank you for sharing!

This is a beautiful pillow!
Pillowcase looks terrific! Love this fabric too.

The Shy Ness fabric became a lovely pillowcase. Thank you, ceanirminger, for letting us use it!

I can envision a boy's room themed around this fabric, it's awesome
Thank you so much, ingermaaike and tlouey!

this is genius
Both story and fabric are true charmers! I wish the owls were in just fabric and not as a pattern, I am very smitten with them but never use an apron...

Love your illustrative style.
Thanks so much, Vivayne!
THis is adorable!!
thank you, carollynborstdesigns, inscribed_here and cottageindustialist! (whew, that's a mouthful!) I'm super glad you liked old Nessie and her sad tale of mental health issues. I'm going to revamp her repeat soon, cottageindustialist, meaning within the next decade. (being obsessed with making contest entries does a number on non-contest fabric manipulation output!)
What a gorgeous design, and what a close contest! The printed fabric is stunning, I'm very impressed.
I so superlove this. In spite of my extreme jealousy that I didn't think of it first!
My wee boy is pirate-obsessed, and I'm thinking he needs sheets made of this. I totally feel you on the non-square repeat obsession, but I sure hope that if/when you redo it for a half-drop you'll make it available for sale.
It's true! she saw your devastatingly cute sea creatures and just had to cast her vote. she and I are both completely happy with the outcome of the contest. Thanks everybody!
Nessie is beautiful! I hear that I won by 1 vote and I think it may have been Nessie's!
Nautical fabric contest runner-up!

Hehe Shy Nessie saw how close she was to winning and she hurried up and voted for the other piece in a last ditch effort to keep herself out of the limelight.
Seriously... ONE VOTE! Amazing and awesome!
OMG, by one vote! Ooooouch, poor Nessie! Great job! You're catching up with me! :)
Nice depiction of the ever elusive Nessie, congratulations!

Amen, sistah friend! Let Nessie sing it from the mountain tops!
congrats cean, well done for coming in second, nessie is fab and now everyone can see that and perhaps she'll be a little less shy aw!
I know! I'm so suprised and happy and I feel bad about talking down to Nessie now, especially because she has such bad self-esteem anyway. Thank you all for the awesome suprise and maybe now Nessie will have enough confidence to come out and declare her realness for all to hear!
You came in second! Awesome! And here you didn't even like this one that much! :)
When I vote on a contest I see a design and go "Oh! That's absolutely fabulous!" and then I look... and it's always yours. I'd love a skirt made in this....
Super scaly waves...i just wanna' reach out and squish 'em!
Thanks everybody! I voted for I think every person on this page, and not just because they wrote me a comment. This contest had so many great designs I voted for 30! And emmyupholstery, as a Scot I'm sure you are Nessie's emmisary. Tell her thanks for the inspiration and I'm sorry if she thinks I made her tail too fat.
Just something about it - colors...everything! Love it!:)
I overheard Nessie saying that she's "a wee bit embarrassed", but is "really grateful for having been featured in your beautiful design". She wanted to thank you for having been so kind and sympathetic, and for raising agoraphobia awareness. When she feels confident enough she will upload her fabric designs too and hopes we'll like them.
Awesome work! I just voted for you!
The water really does seem to shimmer. it will be splendid on a shimmery fabric like the sateen.
I love the serpent and the waves. There is something soothing (about a sea serpent???) but the undulation is very cool.
I feel your pain - I generally can't stand a basic repeat in my designs. I guess that speaks to my chaotic nature. Still in all though, Nessie handles it all swimmingly! ;)
thanks everyone! I'm not loving the basic repeat, but I messed up my original drawing's half drop and didn't notice it wasn't matching up until I uploaded it onto spoonflower, so then it was a mad dash to get something ready and in before the contest deadline. I'll go back in later and revamp this girl to have a little more interesting of a repeat.
This is really great, wonderful design.
Fabulous! Definitely a winner!
beautifully done, i love poor nessie - a fantastic design with some wonderful touches and as always a great description!!
Aw, she just needs a blog and a webcam to get her back into the media mix. Beautiful drawing once again. The details are splendid.
aww, one sad tear. poor nessie. She is beautiful though! The water is amazing, I love the idea of waves being scales. In the yard view the scales with the thicker whites make the water look like it is shining.
