Don't know how you'd make this if it was a traditionally pieced quilt, there's a million little odd-shaped pieces to stitch around! But, this is kind of a personal project, and that's the beauty of a cheater quilt! I designed this from a photograph I took a couple years ago of the Queensboro bridge having repairs done while visiting my brother in Brooklyn. This bridge actually celebrated it's 100th anniversary last year, one of six NYC bridges that are atleast 100 years old. If I can find the time (and the patience), I plan on actually attempting this quilt and possibly stitching in some birds on the wires, a few faded planes peeking out of the clouds or maybe sign my name as grafitti on a lower corner of a bridge support. There are just a few pale quilting lines (like marking the corner miters), but for the most part it's open to however much or little embellishment is desired.

lisa_eaton says: This is an amazing image. If you want to make it into a quilt that's not a cheater quilt, but also not a traditionally pieced quilt, check out SusanCarlson.com . Her classes and books changes my whole approach to quilting, art, life! And your design is perfect for her technique. Both of her books are great. And you designs are just amazing.

sammyk says: Great idea. Now you have to sew one up for us to see! (*waiting, waiting, while drumming fingers on the table*) As a New Yorker, I'm especially fond of our ol' 59th Street gal you've showcased here! She's a beaut and so's the quilt! :)

pattysloniger says: Thanks! You pegged it, I'd been meaning to do a painting of this bridge, but when this contest came around I thought it might be interesting as fabric art instead.

jillianmorris says: Very unique idea for a quilt. I love the subtle patterns hidden in there. This would look great hanging on the wall as art!
