Because deep down you've always wanted to be continuously hugged while slaving away in the kitchen. Enter The Chefalopod!* Groupie of all groupies, this admiring apron will lovingly hang off you and gaze into your eyes as you try to measure out capfuls of vanilla extract without spilling anything.
Apron panel measures approx. 33" tall in a chirpy combination of white-on-orange polka dots. Use your favorite bias binding to finish off the edges or back the pattern completely in a complimentary fabric of your liking. Includes a handy measuring cup bib pocket.
Enjoy. And don't burn anything.
*No cephalopods were harmed in the making of The Chefalopod.

I love it! How about a parrot apron? Could talk you through your cooking adventures!

Very nice indeed. I like the pocket very much.

Chefalopod's spreading more love! Another beyond-awesome-sewn-up-job. Thank YOU, Katie for sharing (and thanks to her great friend for modeling!) Woot! Woot!

'Bonus chefalopod parts' would be almost worth it just for that name. Thanks for the great design --

Awesome job, Chloe! I originally intended for the egg carton to be a side pocket but didn't have room on the yardage to include that applique part. Your suggestions are great; maybe I should offer up a fat quarter of 'Bonus Chefalopod Parts' including the carton, tool holster loop and, now that you mention it, some sort of coordinating hat!
It's pretty good with standard marigold-orange binding, though! I had some crib liner (flannel-faced rubber) that I wanted to use as a waterproof backing, so I got the Chefalopod on quilt-weight cloth. The ties are faced with bits of old sheeting.
The heavy backing makes it drape like a big cone, easy to admire the pattern; it's pretty warm, though. If I did it again, I'd probably stick with a single layer of canvas.
...I bet, if the tentacle bit that goes around the spoon was an applique, that one could use it as a tool holster. Maybe. I didn't have enough spare to try it.

Clew, you're right! I had better get on that idea sooner than later! Thanks!

About the margin on coordinating fabric -- even a shade of orange, or a gradient, to make the binding out of, would be cool. And easier than sea-squill potholders, or a squid-shaped chef's hat.
... Though now I really want you to do the hat....
What a great idea!!!! I love it!
so exelent !!!

One more view, showing the measuring cup pocket! Woohoo!
Come and get it!!! Chefalopod has officially entered the building and may never leave, if all plans go right! I decided to back mine with coordinating fabric. This one's also printed on linen. The measuring cup is a pocket (sewn on applique-style). Adjust the straps to fit you just right and enjoy the love and devotion that IS Chefalopod!
...on linen-cotton canvas

Oh, you're so right. *sigh* Better get on that! I'm also thinking about creating two smaller ones, so little kiddies can have adoring mini Chefalopods of their own. My 'to do' list is getting longer...
It would be great if you could add a swatch of coordinating fabric, or patterns for pot holders, or something, to the extra fabric on the wider fabrics. Then it wouldn't just be wasted.
Hahaha, I know. I've ordered Chefalopod in the linen and am waiting to get it in my hot little hands. Seems like he's got a good fan club going, so I'l be happy to share the wealth once I sew up and post the finished apron pictures! Soooooon, I hope!
Tell the "Chef" to stop moaning, and start nagging you to make him up into an apron. Then people will buy him, and he can make lots of new friends who will love him as much as I do.
sammyk might be able to keep that up, but you know me, I strike a chord with voters now and then but spend most of my time midway down the scorecard. I think it's about time for you to hit the big one, uzumakijo!
hahaha you pair are hilarious, well done sammyk for coming 2nd - can't wait to see it sewn up!! i couldn't call which of you or cean would win this week - perhaps you 2 should just take it in turns to have a win each week, that's fair isn't it??
What can I say. I'm irish catholic.
Sorry? What? I didn't hear you over the weeping of The Chefalopod. Hahaha, KIDDING of course! (Turns to Cheffy: "Quit it with the crying, already!"). Cean, wow, what I'm surprised at is that your parents have 114 children. Very impressive. Glorious owl aprons for all of them, I presume? And thank you ALL so much for your wonderful comments and support. I love the nerd element of it all (what the name of that cephalopod documentary; got look for it on Netflix now!). I LOVE hearing what you all have to say; it's such a thrill (if I could only hear over that incessant whimpering).
Ack! It's a bittersweet victory for me since I personally love your chefalopod with his sweet personality and extra hands for helping out in the kitchen. I think the only reason I won is that my parents have many children and they are all loyal voters. A big heartfelt congrats on your runner up status! I'm sure this will be the last time I manage to beat you!
I voted for you I think this is really great.
I still remember being mesmerized by a cephalopod documentary I watched in high school when I should have otherwise been doing my homework. (I suppose that I'm taking this opportunity to walk out of the nerd closet...) The nerd in me totally loves that you named this work "Chefalopod," and of course the artist in me loves the original design. Lovely work!
Congrats on placing this week, nice job.
Sooooo, cute and so fab! Some fab winners in this one. Love it.
Congrats on #2! :) I swear I could have nearly predicted the top 10 outcome of this contest! Or at least who the top 3 would be though not necessarily in order. You guys all RAWK! ;)
Thanks, everyone! And fluffygeek....LOVE that; hilarious! I've ordered one and will sew it up. If all goes well, I'll post photos and open it for sale for anyone who can't control their Chefalopod attraction.
I made the mistake of showing this to my family and now I need a... ?collective noun? of Chefalopods to satisfy them!
Uh Oh Sammyk! The dino's are gonna give this Chefalopod a run for its money (at least the resident Chef can beat it down with it's spoon!) O M G --- AMAZING aprons - ALL OF 'EM! I am in your corner - rooting for you - Just don't tell the Chef I voted for.... BOTH... ~running away now....
I absolutely love and want this.
Absolutely DARLING! He is so freakin cute.
I want to buy this one too. Can anyone say... apron collection?
Thanks everyone! Chefalopod is here to please and pleased to be here. Since there's a fairly slim chance that anyone could pin me down long enough to tie an apron around me in the first place, I had to come up with something that even I'd volunteer to wear. I'd probably even want to go swimming in it. Be jealous, mirrored sunglass-wearing life guards.
thanks victoria! It's good to have smart people watching my back. Now I have the knowledge to get this cephala-party started!
ceanirminger, remember if you want to make a windsock you'll have to get sammyk to make the design available in mirror so you have one facing each way to sew back-to-back. or you could sew little loops on the ends of the tie arms and hang it on the wall. The latest thing in kitchens is not apples, fruit or veggies; it's octopuses.
Love it, so clever!
stellar as usual! Since my sewing and cooking skills don't deserve such a great apron I'll probably have to buy two and make a giant wind sock. I love it and give it eight thumbs up!
gloriously wonderful, hilarious and adorable - and of course he can't make "useful" suggestions! i would much rather be hugged and gazed at than be told 'oh, i think you may have added too much seasoning there hon!'
i didn't enter this contest as i am a very basic seamstress and useless at instructions and there is no way i could have ever come up with anything like this!! mega fantastic!!
Ultimately that is what I decided too, WeavingMajor. Plus I just don't really want an apron. But I see everyone's entries and I am just blown away by how imaginative they are! I just could not think outside the box within the confines of the contest rules.
bwa ha ha! I didn't enter the apron contest because I thought it was boring. But you made it fun instead. I wouldn't even mind if you won a fifth time, this is so cute. I love the big grin, and the measuring-cup pocket. And of course the sidebar patter.
It's just A - D - O - R - A - B - L - E (You brat !) B-)
Love that the sewn portions are indicated with letters :].
Chefalopod is adorable! I love that there are no straight lines. I can't sew straight.
rotfl, ouch, I'm ok I just ended up under the dining room table rolling around down there. So funny I love it. I might have to make more than one apron. If I can scrape together the cash. Wonderful description.
hahahaha. I particularly like that the eggs are located right about ovary level.
Omigod! Awesome, awesome, AWESOME! I am blown away by everyone's ideas and designs - especially as I could not ultimately come up with one myself!
