This design began as an old Converse tennis shoe . . . a tribute to Dali. Really. See details.
Over ten years ago, I showed an art high school class how they could turn ordinary objects into biographical tributes to famous artists. I used one of my old red tennis shoes and turned it into Dali complete with that fantastic moustache, netting to represent the village in which he was born, and of course watch faces (albeit those RugRat watches that came in old Burger King Kid’s Meals.) So I took some pics of my collage piece. I manipulated the image and now it’s a Christmas tree. If you look closely, though, you will see another Christmas tree lurking beneath. That was my first tree but the image was too large to upload to Spoonflower, so I reworked the design again, hence “Pentimento.â€

Thank you, Sylvie, for your vote and the favoriting. I appreciate all your comments and I'm so happy that you picked up on the "padded and quilted" look. Thanks so much.

Cool Tree Deborah! I loved this the second my eyes landed on it ;-) I haven't had internet good enough to make a comment till now.. :-( but I managed to Vote and now doing the Fav! Your tree looks padded and quilted before it's even done in reality :-)! This would look fantastic as a quilt centre to be used as a throw in the lounge, to cuddle under on a chilly winter's day, especially if there is another, decorated with extras hanging on the wall.. hehe
I appreciate your comments so much, Rhonda. Thank you so much. I really enjoyed working on this. It was a challenge I enjoyed. Thank you so much for taking a look.
This is a spectacular wallhanging, Deborah! There is such gorgeous decorative detail and fascinating layers of pattern to explore in this design, that I could look at it over an over again and still find some new little gem in it to treasure!
Thanks so much, Su, Amy, Charlotte and Sylvie. I'm so happy you like the design. I really enjoyed working on it and I appreciate your comments so much. Thanks so much for taking a look.
Plenty of wonderful détails, Deborah ! And a great yard design !
Absolutely gorgeous, unique design
Gorgeous, Deborah, and such an original design spin on a very traditional theme. So totally creative!
This looked absolutely fabulous in the excellent view offered in the Contest - where you could really see the richness of the textures and various techniques. Sadly we really lose that in the normal way of viewing designs - maybe consider adding some details? Your note really hooked me in too Deborah - thanks for explaining 'pentimeno" - I learned something! Also, the colors and the wonderful varied darkness of the background really got me - this entry REALLY stood out for me!!
