The foxiest of all costumes! Please read details below image.
This pattern is designed to be made from knit fabric. One yard of knit will make a fox hood (aviator style cap) with ears and a belt with tail (you will also need fusible interfacing, stuffing for the tail, and some kind of closure for the belt, such as Velcro or a buckle).
A fat quarter will give you the necessary pieces for just the hood, but you will need to provide your own lining fabric when not ordering the full yard.
Hood is one-size-fits-most and was designed for a M/L adult head (mine - pictured - is 22.5"). This project is recommended for Intermediate-Advanced sewers (especially when using the slippery Performance Knit).
Faux Suede may also be used for a furrier costume, however, since it will not stretch, the hood will only fit Small or child-size heads. When using faux suede, there is no need to use interfacing to reinforce pieces.

Congrats on top 10! Looks great sewn up! I like the tail belt!
Congrats on placing in the top ten for a really wonderful costume design.....so amazing! :o)
It looks even better on my two-year-old.
With the tail! Tutorial coming soon.
Back of the hood.
Finally. I love it when a plan comes together!
Thank you both. Sarah, I admit I had Ylvis in mind (partly) when designing this. My boys love the music video. It kind of gets stuck in your head. Ringa-ding-ding!
What does the fox say? That this is adorable and right on trend! I just saw an article that thanks to the Ylvis YouTube sensation, fox is the number one trendy costume for Halloween! Well done!
Clever and fun. You've done a good job!
Thank you very much, su, and thank you for the tip. I will have to fiddle with the layout a little and see if that is possible. I will definitely keep that in mind for future patterns.
Great to see your prototype - I can see that this is going to work really well! Also I'm so impressed with how you've structured it for the FQ as well - that was clever! It is nice to see something for adults in the contest! A trick I learned from the last Cut and Sew contest is that if you put the instructions at the left hand bottom corner then they can be read when people look at a swatch view.
Thank you very much, cerigwen.
It was worth sacrificing the orange marker - the fur looks wonderful!
Thank you! I put a lot of time into the fur (and wore out my Harvest Orange marker).
The fur has a wonderful texture! Definitely post some pictures when you're finished sewing this up.
Thank you, Rhonda. I tried to make something that could be adapted for children or adults.
This is a clever as a fox idea for a costume! It should be a lot of fun for some young Halloween Trick-or-Treater to wear!
Thank you. I can't wait for my test yard to arrive so I can get it sewn up.
this is so cute! I love it.
