The mythology of the Phoenix can be traced back to the ancient Greeks but is a symbol found in many times and places throughout history.
Associated with the Sun as with the seasons, the Phoenix arises from the ashes of the bird who came before it. One dies to only to give rise to another. This is the part of the life cycle that represents spring and the Sun moving closer to the Earth. Expanded it is an icon for fertility, renewal, awakening and rebirth. Depending on who you are talking to the Phoenix has represented resurrection or reincarnation and triumph over death, misfortune or one's own personal challenges.
