Ah, the lumberjack shirt. I have some of those. They're not really fluffy here. Pyjamas here used to be made (before the era of central heating) out of a cotton knit which then had the inside brushed up into fluff.

I love wearing plaid flannel shirts, but the colors often leave something to be desired, tending towards the "woodsman" look. This plaid is very pleasant. I wonder if one could approximate the cozy softness of flannel, by printing on the cotton knit? (I think the printed cotton flannel plaids are printed first, then brushed to raise the nap, since the napping is a final stage of making flannels.) (As for printing on terry toweling, I am sitting here looking at a lovely Vera print of pink pelargoniums on a terry hand towel, but I can't begin to guess how difficult it was to produce it.)
Plaid, flannel shirts are a classic casual staple here in my part of the world. Produced predominantly for men, it's not easy to find shirts with more "feminine" colors. Also nice to have a flannel nightgown or two.
But printing to such a fuzzy surface seems like an impossible task. Fluffy toweling would be called terrycloth here in the U.S.A. And it would be even harder to print on than flannel. There are many other fuzzy fabrics available here as well. Minky (sp?) and polar fleece are two that come to mind.
What would you be doing with the flannel? There are other places out there which claim to be able to print somehow on some sort of fluffy towelling material (having not seen it, I'm not sure how the American terminology translates to the UK stuff I do know about).
Oooo....this one makes me wish we could print on flannel!
This is one of the ones which came out very well. Tartan generation is not the most flexible of art forms but there are still significant choices which can be made.
nice - I think you achieved your desired effect. I'm impressed with the different moods you've created with your 'simple' tartans!
