My grandmother used to drag us out of the house by 6.30am (here in Malaysia it is right before dawn). My father would have epic shouting sessions, making sure all of us were ready to go. We would spend the journey deciding which restaurant to go. Either Ming Court, or Foh Shan. Once there, we had to stand and wait for empty tables because believe or not, the tables will all be taken up by then.

My favoritest food is the stuffed yam. It is a fried yam ball about the size of a lemon, stuffed with sweet minced pork. In Cantonese it is called 'Wu Kok'. I dream of it all the time. The best ones can only be found in Ipoh (where I grew up), and the ones in Kuala Lumpur (where I am now) CANNOT be compared.

Dim Sum will forever be to me - Stuffing my face full of egg tarts and Wu Kok, washing them down with hot Chinese Tea, and going home well before it is even 9am.

Dim Sum time was always at the crack of dawn, with spring rolls freshly fried, dumplings and buns freshly steamed, and the egg tarts still piping hot.
