No-one's life is ever a perfectly happy one, There are minor troubles and major griefs, worries and fears and losses to cope with. What is interesting to me, is the way in which people rise above the troubles, deal with the grief and laugh at the worries. So, yes, I can see how your design title makes us question the superficial outer image and ponder on the inner reality that may be happening beyond the attractive facade. On a somewhat less philosophical note, your design is an attractive, nicely laid out street of interesting houses. I can see a lot of potential for using this design in patchwork and quilting projects.

I couldn't see your Kuler palette (maybe it is still private?) - which was a shame because I was curious about the fifth color... Eye catching illustration, puzzling title - maybe a little further explanation could help us get the sense?
Gorgeous illustrations ! Love this :)
Beautifully drawn. Maybe the heartache is kind of a Buddist sentiment? It does make us wonder a little more about the people who lived in these lovely homes!
I think this is lovely, and I wondered about the heartbreak too!
It is a very nice design with all those tudor style homes. I live in a pseudo tudor and can see my house fitting nicely into your street.
But the title puzzles me.
Why would everybody be unhappy? Seems a rather peaceful and sunny place you've drawn. Is this some song lyric by a group I never heard, or other pop culture reference to something that didn't cross my path?
