My entry in the Fashion contest. See notes.
I remember coordinating outfits and reading all the magazines or "zines" as they now are called, trying to keep up with the latest in fashion. Of course, living in that portion of the USA called the "Flyover States," fashion changes came more slowly. Now, however, I find myself dealing with a parent who has dementia and the very most important thing now is simply that my beloved parent just keeps on his clothes. It's funny how everything else falls by the wayside.
I robbed one of my original collages to make this design. I cut out the little clothing designs, rescanned them, worked with them digitally and put them into this design. Thanks for taking a look.

You are right about that -- clothes all over the floor when getting ready for an event -- choosing something special to wear for the special event is hard! Thank you for your comments and thanks so much for taking a look at the design. I appreciate it.

Your design reminds me of the whirlwind scene of activity that takes place in a girl's bedroom when she is getting ready to go out for a special occasion. (ALL events are special when you are a certain age!) I am very impressed by your attention to minute details in your cleverly constructed layers of clothing motifs! You are so right about the change in perspective and attitudes that we undergo as we deal with all the trials and tribulations of growing older, both for ourselves and those who are near and dear to us.
Thanks, Amy. Dementia is so cruel -- our brain is our most important asset! :-) And it affects more than just the person who has it. Anyway, the design -- the center piece -- it's a blouse with an odd skirt -- yellow and orange -- if you look closely you can tell that the skirt is cut from handmade paper. The other cutouts I scanned into Photoshop Elements and worked with them so much, their handmade texture kind of disappeared. I also used bleeding tissue paper. Probably more info than you wanted to know! :-) Thanks so much for taking a look and for your sweet comments. I appreciate it.
Deborah, this is a fantastic design...the colors, textures and I love the 1960's style flowers, it all works beautifully together! It tugged at my heart to read your description...I saw my grandmother go through dementia and how difficult it was for my mom and uncle. Hang in there. I'm amazed that these lovely shapes are cut from paper....so much patience to do that!
Thanks, Su. The idea came quickly and I had my little paper cutouts at hand so I thought I'd give it a try. Glad you took a look. Thank you.
Looks great in yardage and I love all the grungy textures and the color scheme!
