Description: The horse motion photographs which didn't make the cut. There was once a long-standing debate over whether all 4 hooves of a horse were off the ground simultaneously in a gallop or trot. In the Victorian era, the technology was finally developed which allowed Eadweard Muybridge to settle the question once and for all. He went on to produce famous books from his photographs of animal motion. This design features the type of horse snapshots which I imagine didn't make the cut.

sef

sef says: It would probably need to be either the multicolour version or a colourised monochrome version to match whatever the prevailing colour of their quilt is. I wouldn't have thought that many people made greyscale quilts - and the horses themselves are even less likely to! But there's certainly potential for splitting up the images into suitably sized patches for quilting.

sef

sef says: My imagined horse is not so much camera-shy as obstreperous.

weavingmajor says: bwa ha ha! Didn't expect to see a horse's a-- in the contest, but given the context it's hilarious!

sef

sef says: I forgot to mention, su_g, that the upside-down horse is executing the manoeuvre otherwise known as ROFL.

eclecti...

eclectic_house says: Hah! I did actually *think* of Muybridge, but didn't have a clever idea to go with that. Yours is very funny, Sef. :^)

sef

sef says: Unfortunately, with umpteen things going wrong all over the place, I didn't have time to execute this one to my usual standard. So it's just quick sketches, inked and scanned and barely cleaned up at all. I'll probably work on this one further sometime.

glimmer...

glimmericks says: Very funny - and a creative interpretation! And the hook to Muybridge is very inspired.
