thanks Victoria! And thanks for the suggestion you mailed me about putting in a background - I put some gingham in the background and they look a lot more 'grounded' now. And I want to try to make some 'sidewalk cement' fabric next since that would be even better for the jacks to sit on!
You definitely got the "shiny" in this; and I think the shadows enhance that look.
Thank you Pamela and Eclectic! I did a <A href="http://www.spoonflower.com/designs/2115059">no-shadow</a> one that I like even better, and now I think a paler-shadows one would be best. I didn't think such a 'simple' idea would take me so long!
<p>As far as 'shiny' goes, I'm realizing that to make a flat non-shiny surface (fabric) appear shiny we really need to represent something 3-dimensional in the fabric - such as your pearls, Pamela, or Fireflower's undulating forms. That was helpful for me to understand why some of my attempts at shiny... um, fell flat!
