Almost any kind of apple will keep for three or four months, or even longer, if stored properly. All you need is newspaper, a box or basket, and of course your apples.
The main causes of apple spoilage are time, bruises, and contact with a rotten spot on another apple.
Prevent contact between apples stored for the winter by wrapping them individually in sheets of newspaper. The easiest way to do this is to unfold a section of newspaper all the way and tear it into quarters. Then stack the quarters.
Place an apple on top of the stack and fold the top sheet of paper up around the apple, covering it completely. Give the corners a slight twist—just enough to make them stay wrapped. If you twist them too hard, the paper will tear. It's not necessary to exclude air. Just twist hard enough so the paper doesn't come unwrapped before the apples are boxed. The paper prevents contact between apples, so just one rotten apple won't spoil the whole bunch. With practice, you'll be able to wrap and store apples as fast as you can scan them for bruises and sort them.

Thank you - updating the tea towels each year seemed like a good idea to me too, same spot but I change the dates and juggle the colours around each year to keep it fresh.

Great use of the apple palette ! ♥
An apple a day, keeps the doctor away, and an apple a month makes a lovely calendar!
Thank you Amy - it's so good to have an open mind and keep on learning - and Sue Ellen, so pleased this is making you smile!
Another successful combination of your artistry with the Apples palette! These are such perky, happy apples, with their bright shiny spot and fresh, up-lifted leaves ... makes me smile just looking at it! A good omen for a good year to come :-)
Moira, this is a lovely calendar tea towel and it has a very cool retro feel to it! The colors are so pretty and I learned something about apples that I did not know.....see, spoonflower can be educational! :o)

Very well done. Good Job.
The scrumptious looking apples on your lovely design make my mouth water for such crunchy, munchy fresh fruit! This would be a cheery calendar to hang in a kitchen. I am sure it would inspire sales if it was on the wall of a fresh produce shop! ;-)
Bright, cheerful and easy to read. This lovely calendar perfectly compliments your apple collection. Well done!
