Granny Smith Cane for Granny Smith Apples!
Here are the amended instructions so that Lisa can read them!
Stiffen the fabric using spray on starch and cut out pieces.
Fold each leaf shape in half - right side in - stitch around the leaf leaving a gap for turning near its base. Turn right side out and slip stitch the gap closed. For extra crispness you can stitch around the veins if you wish. Press the leaf flat.
Stitch the pieces together in pairs - you can make one green, and one red apple or two red and green apples it’s up to you - using a ½“ seam. Then stitch two pairs together leaving a 2â€gap in one seam at the bottom of the apple and inserting one end of an 8†length of cord at the other end, firmly stitched in place.
Trim the turnings and turn right side out - pulling the unattached end of the cord, loosely, through the gap.
Stuff the apple with wool batting or sheep’s wool - the lanolin will protect your pins from rust - and then slip stitch the gap closed inserting the base of a leaf as you do so.
To shape the Apples pull on the cord tightly, and tie a knot in it close to the top of the apple, this is your stalk.

Thank you Lisa, Pincushions... what a splendid idea - I will not lie, I hadn't thought of that - I'd just thought Apples stuffed... that would be fun! Perhaps I should make it more pincushion specific... stuff it with bran instead of toy stuffing. Thank you for that!
Adorable!!! Are these to be made into pincushions? (When I zoom in on the text, my monitor just blurs it so badly that I can't read it). Post photos when you stitch some up! What a sweet (and useful!) project idea.
