That's kind of the intended effect, yes. I figure that if a gorgon was a real monster the petrification part of the myth would make more sense as a metaphor for being mesmerised into approaching and holding still while being eaten. The flip side of snake-charming. (I was actually working on a different firefly project. So it's not surprising some of that rubbed off on this design.)

No worries if you wished for scary - it's creepy, as well as compelling; I feel drawn into the light, only to find fangs at the center! From a distance, the large heads look more like spiders or sea anemone than flowers, while the smallest look like sparks or maybe fireflies. This design is one of my favorites, though, even if it gives me nightmares!
Ah - not at all scary then? I thought it would work well as a long distance design, with the heads looking like twisted-petal flowers and only revealing their true nature on closer inspection.
This is a hoot. It makes me laugh every time I see it, and I mean that in a good way. The colors are good and your design went together very nicely. I could see this as an iPhone cover or sketchbook cover.
