St. Louis's oldest farmer's markets is just a few miles from my home, The Soulard farmer's market established in 1776. Then a huge land mass that horse drawn trailers came in from all over the Missouri and Illinois farming community to sell their goods. Later a large, brick building and rows of covered stalls were added and still exist in that form today. The inside shops are always open but the stalls fill up only on Friday and Saturday. You can always find Blues muscians playing there adding to the experience of the outdoor shopping. Crowds of people show up every week to take advantage of the great prices and the fabulous organic farmers sprinkled in the mix of spices, meats, cheeses and vegetables. Raw orchard honey at a fair price along with organic breads and pastry treats. The market also has an area where local artist display and sell their work along side other vendors of clothing, jewelry and such. It's not just shopping but an every weekend event. There is a picnic area and child's play ground area as well. A pride of our city that just keeps getting better as the years and centuries go by. This is a photo of the artistry of displays you will find in abundance at the market that I have displayed in mirror repeat giving the illusion of a woven blanket. This is my entry in the farmers market fabric design contest.
