Dear I have learned that every cloud does have a silver lining. I broke my leg in three places that day and was lying on the banks of the Meramec river. I had just signed a rental lease on a third floor apartment and was moving out of a downtown loft on the 8th floor. I couldn't work and had two leases to pay and no insurance. Things looked bleak. But then the little miracles started to happen. I worked with a woman who had a friend that worked at the hospital I was treated at in billing. When she saw I worked with her friend she called her friend and asked her about me. The friend told her my situation and I received a letter from the hospital that all my charges had been dropped and I didn't owe a penny for the surgery and hospital stay. By surprise my friends got together and threw my a benefit that was literally a queen for the day event. The best local bands all showed up to the outdoor garden of the Lemp Mansion and the owners of the mansion threw a bar-b-que, all donated. They raised enough money to keep my bills covered during my recovery. I can not convey the feeling of standing there amongst friends and strangers all there for me. It still makes me well up with tears to remember that feeling of the first time in my life realizing that I really was loved and cared for. It was also my first big lesson in searching for the good that can come from a challenge. Breaking bones and giving up chucks was nothing compared to that life lesson.

Thank you so much, Janiece and Amy! @Janiece, I'm so sorry about your accident! It's too bad they couldn't custom design the hardware so it would conform to the Chuck Taylors' shape!
This totally reminds me of how much I love my Converse....I have them in so many colors. This design totally rocks!
For years I wore Chuck's all the time. This is so cool. I'd still be wearing them if I hadn't busted up my leg and ankle on a float trip causing my ankle to have hardware in it that won't let me wear them any more. The high tops rub on the ankle and the low tops poke at it and is painful. What a great nostalgic design. I love it.
Thanks, Bee! I had some yellow hi-tops in high school, but am just now getting back into them, with three pairs. I only need one pair, but it's hard to resist having one of every color!
