The first quarter of this fabric is a 12" chess board with squares roughly 1.3" and a row of markers, which can be sewn into a bag.
A full yard will add a larger chess board with cues like 1-8 and shadows of marker positions outside the board. The squares of the larger board are under 2" as are the optional markers.
The markers are not designed for a fold-over stuffing -- it seemed like too much work for you! So they are designed with the assumption you will cut and glue to card stock, or sample marble tiles.
You can also apply duct tape smoothly to the back and cut through... it will be a little sticky and non-archival, but sturdy and lightweight. If you are ambitious, try oilcloth or wax techniques! Or just bring your own markers.
