Inspired by the amazing works of Jane Austen.
Based (loosely) on the simplicity of Regency-era textile designs, each element in this piece represents an underlying theme in (at the very least) three of Jane Austen's works. The peacock is a nod to "Pride & Prejudice", a regal animal known for making notable first impressions (side note: did you know Jane Austen originally titled the book "First Impressions"?). The thorny vine that encircles the heart symbolizes Austen's characters' cynicism, cutting wit, prickly natures, and the tangled arc of their stories. The heart is the reluctant burgeoning of romance and love, despite the characters' initial intentions and behavior. ...And I'm beginning to bore myself, so... the flowers and the leaves are just there because I think they are pretty.
