Jane Austen loved her garden at Chawton, Hampshire. A source of inspiration for passages of her novels, this design was sketched out there, where many of the plants she knew and described are now grown.
I live very close to Chawton, and often visit the village and Jane Austen's garden. In a rural setting, very typical of Hampshire, the garden is not as large as when Jane lived there. During her occupation there was an orchard, a shrubbery walk, a dairy and a few animals including geese such as those illustrated. The door shown still exists with the pretty climbing rose around it. The garden has now been restored with flowers and plants that Jane, her Mother, and sister Cassandra grew there.

Beautiful work, huge congrats!!!
Congratulations, a well deserved place in the top 10, a beautiful fabric.
What a lovely surprise! I can't imagine what Jane would make of it all! I'm so grateful for all the comments that have been made during the contest - and also of course for the votes. It is so encouraging to receive such kind support. I'm new to this, so it means a lot, and spurs me on to think about what else I might be able to do with my designs. Now that is something Jane would understand.
I loved all the other interpretations too - we covered pretty well everything from country house to country mouse I think! Just as Jane knew all sides of life too. I'm looking forward to making some items with the fabric - I wonder what anyone else is doing with it, what a great creative community - so pleased to be part of it.
So pretty! Explores the romantic side of the novels!
Congratulations on making the top ten - gorgeous illustrations!

This is a charming design, filled with floral delights and a sweet, garden freshness which would have appealed to Jane Austen.
Oh, what a great idea, and so beautifully rendered!
Very Elegant and beautiful, it is also very regal. I can make beautiful spring and summer dresses with this. Wonderful job!

A very feminine and cute design. The flowers have been lovingly drawn with full attention to all details. Very taking, absolutely.
