This design is directly inspired by a manuscript illustration in the Kebra Nagast, a medieval Ethiopian work of extra-biblical history that holds high esteem in Rastafarianism. Though the original illustration depicts the Ancient of Days surrounded by the heavenly beasts from the Book of Daniel, the figure in this design is perhaps more specifically Christ; the traditionally ornate Ethiopian Cross is depicted in the corners of the seamless repeat.
