This playmat is a full yard (42" x 36") chock-full of possibilities for playtime action. The roads are scaled for Hot Wheels or Matchbox cars to take up one lane. The train tracks are scaled for the smaller metal Thomas the Tank Engine trains (the ones that connect with magnets, and have grey plastic tracks). The spaces outlined for buildings are scaled exactly for the standard sizes of Lego "base plates." Of course, the kids that use this playmat don't have to use these specific toys. I purposefully left the details of the playmat sparse, rather than specific -- I'd like the design to suggest possibilities to kids' imaginations, rather than offer them a static, one-use toy.
