The Lyrebird, so named because of its lyre shaped tail display, is a resident of Australian East Coast temperate rainforests.
Roughly the size of a domestic hen, the male Lyrebird only has the display feathers. Lyrebirds are ground dwellers and going about everyday tasks such as foraging, the tail is normally gathered and carried behind (like a peacock). Displays are generally for courtship and is accompanied by outstanding vocal mimicry of other rainforest species (and contemporary human made sounds).
