Portraits of the famous and distinguished of their time, circa 1880-1910: in fashionable mauve!
These portraits have been gleaned from European magazines circa 1880 to 1910. The colour mauve (purple) is a reference to the craze for this colour in the late 19th Century. Mauve was the first stable artificial dye ever invented and was a huge fad around the time these portraits were made.
