Little is known about Celtic Astrology but one theory holds that their zodiac was closely associated with their belief in ‘dryads’ the spirits of ancient trees. In this interpretation, the zodiac is divided into thirteen segments, representing the thirteen lunar months of the Celtic calendar. Each segment is represented by a different tree. It is believed by some that the tree sign a person is born under will affect their personality, much like the more traditional astrological signs. The thirteen trees; Birch, Rowan, Ash, Alder, Willow, Hawthorn, Oak, Holly, Hazel, Vine, Ivy, Reed and Elder are labeled in my design in both Gaelic and English. The dates corresponding to those signs are labeled on the leaves of each tree.
