Inspired by the things he was inspired by... African, Japanese/Chinese fabrics and art... with a few twists! The colours reminded me of Japanese Edo period bath robes - these were often decorated using a starch resist made, from rice, dipped in indigo and then stencilled to add colours such as red, pink and gold. I adapted the grouped swirls from a favourite design of the Blue H'mong of Laos know as 'grouped snails'. The circles of basket weave are symbolic of silk worm feeding baskets used in Japan. The narrow border is based on a Chinese knife wax resist from Guizhou.

Henri loved cushions!
