Design by Rhonda W. © 2012 This design is for my grandson, who is a frontier kind of boy. He was making his own primitive, but functioning, bows and arrows before he started school!
This design was created especially for my grandson as a tribute to his spirit of adventure, creativity and determination! All arrows fire to the left in recognition of his left-handedness. The background is yellow, as that is his favourite colour. The images were drawn by me from memories of his earliest , successful, attempts at making and firing his very own, hand-made bows and arrows. An original hand drawn design by Rhonda W. © 2012.

Thank you very much for your kind words and interesting feedback on my archery design, Deborah! Wouldn't it be wonderful if all of those students doing archery at school suddenly wanted T-shirts, sports bags and quiver covers made from materials printed with designs from my "Outdoor Adventure" collection?;-)

Rhonda, this should be a popular design right now. I know, at least in Oklahoma, archery classes are very big in the public schools. Very nice!
Thanks for the comment and for sharing the amusing anecdote about your childhood forays in archery adventures! :-O

I got in to archery in grade school. We did a bit of archery in gym class and I really liked it. I told my parents and they bought me a real nice small bow and set up a practice range in the back yard. One day my brother and I decided to take our show to the front yard where I promptly shot right through the trash bag with the spray paint target, through a bush and into our neighbors radiator, which was still hot from recently being driven. Steam started shooting out. I grabbed the arrow and all the stuff we'd drug out and hid it all. My neighbor never knew what hit him, literally. I followed the rules after that though.
Thank you very much for your wonderful comment, Lisa! My grandson was thrilled to be described as intrepid!

I am sorry that I was not aware of Spoonflower yet when the "Arrow Design" contest was going on! How fun. This design is wonderful, and I REALLY love the story about your remarkable, intrepid Grandson that goes with it! Makes the design come alive.
Thank you, Cassia! I'm glad you like my adventurous boys' design!
I LOVE this! I want to make stretchy baby leggings for my son with it!
Thank you for the comment and the good ideas, Penny! I particularly like like your idea of boys' pyjamas.

This would make fantastic boys shirts and Pajamas, Fantastic!
Thank you for your wonderful comment, Christine! Boys seem to have an endless appetite for adventure! They just love to experience life on "the edge", either in reality or through their very active imaginations! :-)
Fabulous design! My boys would love this fabric!
Thank you very much, Diane! I really appreciate your kind words and positive support!
There were some really great arrow entries, but I am still shocked this didn't make the top ten. It's just such a whimsical and hip design. I love it. I have a brother who collects arrowheads and if I had found this a few years ago when I was looking for arrow & arrowhead themed fabric for a quilt I made him, I would have been in hog heaven. :)
Thank you very much, Tara and John, Robyn and Sue Ellen! I have really enjoyed reading your thoughtful and supportive comments! Sue Ellen, I have come to realise how fortunate we are to have a large garden with lots of trees and shrubs. Our yard, and our neighbourhood , provide a welcome habitat for birds, lizards, frogs and assorted bugs. That makes it a great resource for any child with an enquiring mind and creative spirit.
I like the illustration style you chose for this design ... it reminds me (pleasantly) of several books from my childhood, as does the golden yellow of the background. With just two general shapes, you have created a repeat that is full of movement and interest. This is just the sort of design that would have got made into pajamas or a Western shirt when I was young; today, I'm sure there will be I SPY quilts! [How lucky your grandson was to have the access to the raw materials for his projects ... and how lucky he is to have family that celebrates his gifts.]
Lovely illustrations and such a beautiful little story. A delightful design, Rhonda!
I love your description for this piece. It's fun to imagine a young boy having such an adventure. This is a really nice design Rhonda. It is so thoughtful with such great movement! -Tara
Thank you very much, Kisse! It was so nice to read your sweet comment!

Thank you very much for your sweet comments, Elena, Sannie and Sharon! :-)
Love this hand drawn design Rhonda. Really fantastic! The story behind it is so sweet. I'm sure he's proud of his grandma.
Lovely design ....
Thank you very much, Tullia, Helene and Julia! Your kind comments were lovely to read! As I drew the images for this design I kept remembering so many things about the many different "good ideas" my grandson would have! Sometimes he would spend many hours trying to create items that matched his ideas! He started making the bows and arrows because the plastic toy ones didn't work properly and would snap under pressure. It was very interesting to watch him analyse the steps he needed to take to make a functional implement. He just kept trying different twigs and small branches, until he found ones that worked!
rhondadesigns, how lovely!I like your loose hand arrows drawings!
My son should love this, as me!!! Love the way you drawn this. It makes a terrific design!!!
I am loving the style of this!

Love your design Rhonda!
A terrific design!
Great design Rhonda! Everything about it is just beautiful.
Nicely done. This reminds me of illustrations in the old magazine A Boys Life (I think that's what it was called).
Thank you very much for your kind and thoughtful comments, Su and Amelia! Like you, Amelia, I am fascinated by the creativity and imagination of children. I have kept quite a few interesting samples of art and craft works that have been created by my children and grandchildren. I always like to hear the stories that go with the work as these often give an insight into the young artists' vision that we might otherwise miss!
What a beautiful memory, Rhonda! I wish some of those were still extant, as I have a soft spot in my heart for the handwork of little kids. Beautiful design.
So wonderful Rhonda, the arrows look very professional and I really admire your grandson (and has he inherited that love of yellow?) Both the yellows are lovely and I really admire your skilful integration of yet another arrow motif. I also like the feathers on the arrows very much!
Thank you very much, Victoria, Cean, Shelley, Terese and Lori! Reading your marvelous comments has made my day! Terese, I have to tell you that my grandson has continued to refine his skills and craftsmanship and has made many implements and "inventions" from materials found in the garden, the shed and my studio!
Rhonda, This is lovely! I really like the hand drawn/woody look of them and the background pattern is really nice and so is the story behind your design.
Rhonda, what a great storyline behind this wonderful design. He must be a very creative and hands on person to have made his own bow and arrow set. A wonderful tribute and as always meticulous illustrations from your own hand. All elements of this working so well together...fabulous....T
Very very nice Rhonda - love the background!
What a wonderful and perfect tribute to a boy and his arrows, Rhonda! Love the colors and the vintage 50's feel this gives!
I like the sort of spirally diamonds the bows make in the yardage view; I admit to viewing it in the linen/cotton at 2 yards so I could really see what it was doing. The arrows are fabulous. The background story is fun to read.
Thank you very much for the wonderful comments, Ottomanbrim, Alicia, Jillian, Katarina and Emma!
I love the beautiful illustrative quality of the arrows set against the retro ground. Beautiful work Rhonda! : )
Brilliant, love it!!!
The combination of textured background and sketchy arrows is beautiful! Love the description too :)
wonderful, love this Rhonda!
I love this! The contrast of the graphic background and the hand drawn arrows is so nice! Beautiful illustrations!
Thank you very much for your kind and supportive comments, Dianne, Isabella, Owl and Chickadee and Amy!
I love hand drawing and this is a wonderful example of that. Love it......what a sweet grandma you are!!!
This is a wonderful design! I love your hand-drawn arrows and the story behind your design!
A fabulous hand-drawn design, Rhonda! Each motif is marvelously unique. I like how the background pattern is a subtle geometric echo of the theme. It was great to read about your inspiration, too
Rhonda! That is a FABULOUS design. Love it!
