I made the skirt in the photo from a Vogue pattern from the 1950s. The edge was made by carefully sewing batiste along the lines of the design, trimming it down to 1/8th of an inch and turning the whole thing back. The result is eye-catching, but the cotton material I used is washable and casual enough that I wear this all the time.
