The first time I saw works by Matisse live I was shocked. Matisse was a sloppy artist. His work is full of pin holes and is poorly executed. He would get a bad grade in any art school for execution.
The first time I saw works by Matisse live I was shocked. Matisse was a sloppy artist. His work is full of pin holes and is poorly executed. He would get a bad grade in any art school for execution. Matisse was an artist more concerned with the feeling of creation than the details and his grade on innovation alone would wipe out and balance the messiness. It's shocking because you grow up with images that never show the messy part or have been corrected. You could see from his work the furry and intensity of his creative process. No time for the small stuff just a whirlwind of creation. I learned a lot from my examination of his work and fell in love with his works just as they were. He opened my mind just a bit more with his burning desire to create. This is my entry in the Nasher/Matisse palette limited fabric contest.

Thanks Rhonda, Half of it was spontaneous and half of it was painstaking. lol. I think I broke my record on fabrics I had to vote for in this contest. There were so many great entries.

There is a fabulous feeling of spontaneity and exuberance in your wonderful design! I enjoyed reading your description Janiece.
Love your design and description as well, now i want to go and see Matisse's works live!
Wow, well said, I do agree it certainly is different but eye catching and you captured exacvtly that with your design, well done!
Always glad to hear that something I did was inspirational to someone. Thank you for sharing. Looking forward to seeing the design my story inspired.
Your detailed description of the artists' natural habitat helped me develop my design for the Matisse/Nasher competition,so many thanks. And your design would look right at home in a Matisse painting. Kim@krussimages
I enjoyed doing it Su. In fact I've been on a Mattisse-ish roll over here as a result of that fun, hoping to do a whole collection. I should have some more of them on the market mid November. I did another one in this color palette and have 5 more so far.
A very Matisse-like design and it makes this color scheme look very good. I was amused by your title for this, and the explanation in your description... (idealised versus actual)
