A faux Bargello embroidery showing the scale of the Earth, from the top of Mount Everest to the bottom of the Mariana Trench (note about scale below)
A faux Bargello embroidery showing the scale of the Earth, from the top of Mount Everest to the bottom of the Mariana Trench (scale may not be absolutely exact in this representation) Sea level is the straight line.
I used the proportions from a marvelous poster available at Space.com here. The poster is full of fascinating information, much more than just the scale of the earth from it's highest to lowest points. If the link doesn't work try going to space.com and find the link for the store, then search "Our Amazing Planet From Top to Bottom"

I discovered the link to the poster, in the additional details above, was broken; so I corrected it and also posted directions to find it if they change the address again.

Amazing design, works well with this contest, nice job
Thank you Vo, Su_g, and cjldesigns.
The faux Bargello embroidery is so clever, I am glad I looked at the swatch view. So interesting to see the proportions too, quite amazing!
So clever and so effective as a design that is right on target for the contest theme as well as convincing as a fabric. The idea of a faux bargello is also interesting: and why not? A very nice description and note too - it was good to see it as a half brick as well.
Thank you all for your lovely comments. I added a version in half brick, which I really want to do; but could not get it to line up. I've put a link to it in the description above.
An excellent idea and very cleverly executed. It looks great!
I had to look up Bargello embroidery but once I did this all makes sense. So nice!
You have depicted the heights and depths of Earth's majesty so beautifully in this fantastic design, Victoria!
