I created this design at the height of the Pussy Riot affair in Russia, as a pastiche referencing images that use 'girls' as a lure, and various silhouettes that I balaclavaed and subverted (see if you can spot the knitter) to try and turn them, together with strong colors, into an image of strong women. 'Deep hot pink (d8279c)' is a coordinating solid.
An alternative colorway is 'From Moscow in mulberry and balaclavas' - with the mulberry and strawberry colors giving it a quite different feel.
Thanks to everyone who commented that it works as a celebratory image of the strength of women, and to Sue Ellen for the suggestion to enter it in Spoonflower's Girl Power Contest as a potentially interesting fabric for older girls' clothing.
It printed beautifully as a fabric (I have poplin yardage that I'm looking forward to sewing and wearing). And I'm delighted that it's being used as one of the pieces in a 'Feminist Quilt'.
Ink pen & stencils, designed as a half-drop, basic repeat.

Using a mockup to help me decide which variation to make. I feel this design needs an edgier style than I would normally consider. Husband prefers the middle one...

Reloading (broken link): Long shot of of yardage printed on cotton poplin (daylight photo). The orange is still quite bright, the pink significantly less so; it is quite a dense print, with all the black elements showing quite dark on the reverse side. Might be a bit brighter in different fabric types.
Reloading (broken link): Close up of yardage printed on cotton poplin (daylight photo).
Reloading the proofing swatch image as the link had broken (again!) - printed slightly less bright (on basic combed cotton) than the design image (daylight photo).
Thanks so much for your comment Marta!

this looks great!
Thanks so much for the support and feedback Katherine, Rhonda and Isabella - much appreciated!
Very cool and right on target for the 'Girl Power' theme!
I am so pleased to see that you entered this design into the Girl Power competition, Su! It celebrates the empowering of women in a visually pleasing design!
Still love this! Glad to see it in the girl power contest!
Thank you so much Tina and Angela for your supportive comments, as I've said before, this took me way out of my comfort zone and I really really appreciate your feedback.
Great entry- so strong and positive!
I love the imagery in this and the wonderful colors! The feathery edges of the Russian buildings looks so interesting!
Belatedly thanks for your great comments Susan and Shirley - I think I did try and respond before when I was having trouble with my computing so apologies, as I really do appreciate the feedback on this one!
I like this so much . Takes me back to another era - "I am Woman".
Pussy Riot forever!
Thanks Deborah and Sue Ellen for the powerful feedback - I'm so glad it 'speaks' (sings, roars!), and it was great to know that the references came across! This design was so out of my comfort zone and I really REALLY appreciate your comments on it.

This is fun ... a little 007 title art, a little La Femme Nikita, and totally sassy fem-mannikins! The graphic style, the graffiti colors, and the action-packed stances of the figures give this design a very high energy level. I'm with Annie on this one ... I hear you roar!
Once again showing my age but the minute I saw this design, I heard Helen Reddy singing "I am Woman." As Rhonda said, this is a powerful design.
Thanks for the great feedback Katherine and Rhonda, much appreciated.
There is an an impression of power and strength conveyed by the images and layout of this design! It is eye-catching and intriguing, Su!
Great concept! Love the colors, the modern, silk-screen-looking silhouettes.
