Description:

Unfortunately when I first printed a swatch for this design it came up all too subtle in colour. Using my Spoonflower colour chart I have changed the colours so that the print will look like my original design (see flikr image below). Please do not be mislead by the main digital image in the fabric window. As you can imagine, digital fabric images, especially subtle ones are not always identical to printed fabric.

materialsgirl says: Oooo...love the colors in this one. It is important to order a swatch for the reasons you've outlined. Some fabrics print truer than others that absorb the dyes more. In my experience, for instance, the sateen prints truer to the digital design, but is not always the fabric best suited to the project. The linen and kona dull the colors considerably by comparison. Sometimes that's actually an attractive thing and other times it looks washed out and dull. I've also had certain grays go to green/khaki. It's frustrating to say the least. After seeing the swatch in person and not liking the result, I've remedied some designs by re-uploading the original design to Pic Monkey and doing some of the more basic manipulations such as making adjustments in the brightness of the fabric, or perhaps increase contrast, or make the color cooler or warmer depending on what the issue is. I've found that this can help a lot. Or if the quality, though not exactly like the digital, is tolerable I will simply make a note on the shop display page as you've done here describing what the differences are in the actual fabric vs. the digital. These color differences between the digital and fabric as well as the issue of the seam showing up in some repeating patterns are the two things which I've had most trouble with.

fireflower says: I have been engaged with this issue for months, Emma! My Blue Ridge Summer quilt top looks great in the display, but when printed on fabric, it looks anemic, faded, like it has been out in the sun for at least a year, or washed many times. Interestingly, the wall decal of that design comes out MUCH better, closer to what it should be, and the wallpaper even better, right on the nose. I have so far resisted taking the step you took, of altering the display to make the fabric come out right. But I have ordered other designs, that also look anemic on fabric, on wallpaper and decal swatches, to see if they have the same behavior WRT color.

wednesdaysgirl says: This is how the design should appear when printed on fabric. I would be grateful for any feedback from other Spoonflower folk who have dealt with this issue before : )

wednesdaysgirl says: Thanks so much Sue Ellen and Linda for your wonderful comments! This one has printed even more subtly than the on screen image. I think I will have to intensify the pinks slightly to get the result you see on the screen......after that it may not look so well in the digital image but hopefully it will print with the desired result. It can be a tricky one can't it? I have a few designs that look better on fabric than on screen and a few the other way around! I always try to get the fabric end of things right as I'd hate for a customer to be disappointed : )
