Zigzag waves made from offset right isoceles triangles - as if quilted.
Zigzag waves made from offset right isoceles triangles - as if quilted into a quilt (hence the sideways orientation for the original contest). The component pieces are all tessellations. Viz.: circling birds, jellyfish, sharks and octopods.
Currently displaying a scaled down 6" repeat (for printing on FQs) in shades of azure blue - as of a clear ocean. Other colours, sizes and orientations are available on request. Eg perhaps in shades of cyan-teal; or running down the page for a larger 2-yard quilt or sideways on for a single yard baby quilt; or at a 10" or 9" or even 6" repeat to better fit a particular fabric choice.

Thanks bippidiiboppidii and retrorudolphs. I noticed several other designs among the contest entries which would co-ordinate rather well with it too, if anyone wanted to run with the marine theme when decorating a room with duvets, quilts, pillows, cushions or whatever.

Love this sef, it's got a great flow!
Beautifully constructed Sef and a really gorgeous overall design with the usual amount of cleverness :-)
Thanks. I do think it turned out to be quite a good composite of all the original designs.
No hairspray was tested on any of the animals in it though. ;-)
Awesome pattern! You can definitely feel the "motion of the ocean" in this wave quilt!
That was very much the whole point with this idea! :-D

Although it's possible the octopods are actually space-faring cthuloid monsters who really do belong in the dark band above the birds in the sky.

I like the way you've kept the creatures (and the colors) in the order of the depth of their homes with respect to the surface of the sea, in the long tradition of story-telling through quilts and tapestries.
The circling birds don't really fit exactly - being R6 rather than R4 in basis. I had to be cunning in my choice of scale and selection etc to give them enough of an illusion of fitting. The sizes of the other things were down to what scales worked well with the triangles and each other too though - so that they might plausibly belong in the same sea.
very nice! I love how precisely all of the designs fit in their triangles, and the colors and patterns are pretty!
