Far over the Misty Mountains cold,
To dungeons deep and caverns old,
We must away, ere break of day,
To seek our pale enchanted gold.
This cheater quilt describes Bilbo's journey, from the Shire to the Lonely Mountain and back again.
The quilt tiles both vertically and horizontally. It is a two yard repeat with only slight changes on the second yard - Bilbo is returning to the Shire, rather than leaving. You are looking at the vertically repeating pattern - for the horiztonal repeat, see http://www.spoonflower.com/fabric/1585168.
I put many details from the book into this fabric, so I recommend viewing the Flickr photo at its largest setting so you don't miss anything.
If you are intending to make a project, like a quilt, that requires sewing vertical panels together: the pattern is set to tile properly at the 56" width. If you buy 42" wide cloth, you will get around 1 1/3 horizontal repeats instead of 2. Vertical tiling is handled by Spoonflower.

This is magical on so many levels, and shows so much love for the story itself and for the art of illustration. Beautiful and creative!

Nadiap, I'm moved that I could be a part of encouraging your son's curiosity! I made the design so I could put my kids to bed (whenever I have kids) with a quilt that would spark an interest in books and adventure.

I really love this. So elusive and yet full of the magic of the book. I may be back for more!
For now, this is going on my three year old son's wall (I stapled it to a stretched canvas frame).
It has captured his imagination and he keeps pointing out characters and checking their names.

I love it! I'm making a quilt for My mom, and if I could afford it, I would definitely use this.
This is absolutely fantastic; and a must-have for any "Lord of the Rings" enthusiast.
You have depicted the highlights of Bilbo's adventures on his amazing journey there and back again, in an enchanting fabric design!
Magnificent! Every zig-zag stripe is a delight, but I find the forest especially enchanting. Wonderful creation, this quilt!
Yay! The Hobbit! How wonderful, a great inspiration and your gorgeous design has done it justice. The forest is amazing, a place I could get lost in. Good luck in the contest!
Wonderful! I squealed when I realized it was the Hobbit. You got my vote, for sure.
Thanks for the kind comments! I'm pretty picky about anything geeky too, so I had to go back and read passages of the book to get the details right (for instance, if you look closely at the treasure, you'll find a lot of individual pieces the book describes)
I love this. I'd give you extra votes if I could. My husband loved it, too, and he's extremely picky about design and anything geeky. <3
FANTASTIC! It would make an amazing gift for a child........so many stories to imagine. Pure fantasy. I love it!!!! : D
